i bought at auction year 2000 mc cormick's auto auction palm springs ca . 111 vintage auto sales ,mr.arzano owner,in palm springs sponsored the car ,and said it has been stored at a hollywood studios in north hollywood ca. all these years and maybe the phantom missing john wayne's other 1954 corvette b/c of the location and the fact that it has a three speed stick and maroon instead of red contrasted on the polo white paint. it was obviously painted over with a twelve inch stage prop paint brush ,it has been repainted with ppg polo white lead based polo white laquer and sanded to 2000 grit. it is a well known fact that john wayne parked his many cars on hollywood stage lots studio lots b/c he didn't have room for them all @ his encino,ca home, and he would receive royalties if any of his cars were used in pictures. the way the story goes is john wayne received a 1953 for free from chevy and didn't like it. gae to his wife, she didn't want uit ,either, ward bond ended up in possession of it and was approached by chevy ,why didn't wayne want it? bond asked wayne why ? and wayne said, i has a sissy stick two speed auto, i would reconsider if it had a three spd stick. ward was pushed by chevy to take the two cars to rosarito beach hotel in mexico next time they go down,b/c chevy would like to sponsor a race, the baja 100. any way this was told to me by arzano and thru extensive research.. the calif title has ed dye as the seller to me. arzano said dye kept the car @ the studios until the studio closure in 1999,2000 so all the cars at the studios went to auction in palm springs.
