Car history:
For sale via e-Bay: Vehicle Description We recently discovered this 1961 Corvette which has been hidden away for the past 29 years. The gentleman I purchased the car from bought it back in 1967 when it was only 6 years old. In the early 1970's he went through his customizing phase and decided to update it to a 1962's appearance. He removed the side cove moldings and added 62 rocker panel moldings, painted the grill black, painted the undercarriage white, raised the rear up with shackles, molded onto the original hood an L88 style hood scoop, bolted on chrome reverse wheels, replaced the original steering wheel with an aftermarket wood wheel, added woodgrain to the door panel inserts and installed a T-handle on the shifter. He finished it off by painting it a Firemist Orange Metallic. Fortunately, he "Did Not" flare the fenders or trim their inner edges or even add a third tail light. He drove the car regularly through the summer of 1976 when he parked it in the garage. He told me he forgot to winterize it which unfortunately resulted in a crack on the outside of the block between the freeze plugs. The engine is a 1968 Chevelle, 327/275 hp. The car runs and steers, has brakes, but obviously the block leaks water. The original smooth shifting T-10 4-speed is still in the car. This 61 is basically complete and original. The convertible top has been folded up in the rear compartment for nearly 30 years. The material has shrunk to the point where it can not be fastened to the convertible top hatch. The top bows are in real nice original condition, not rusty. There is a crack on the passenger side of the windshield, please see photo. This car still retains is original black interior other than the carpet. The original exterior color appears to be Honduras Maroon as it is evident in the convertible top tray and trunk area. The car at one time was bumped in the right front fender and had an amatuer repair job, there is now a crack on the drivers front fender side, please see photo. The frame on this 61 is clean and straight, no rust or repair problems. It still has the original rear cross member. All of the bumpers are in very solid condition, not rusted or bent at all. The previous owner was smart enough to have kept the original wheels and hubcaps which are now back on the car. The only other option this Corvette has is a complete original windshield washer system. The previous owner of the past 38 years cared enough about this Corvette to have stored it properly indoors in a clean, dry environment, which really preserved this car. It is not rusty or crunchy underneath, the chrome is not pitted or flaking and the interior has not been eaten up by rodents.
