Car history:
Charlie an elderly gentelman down the road & A friend of mine that welds and builds motors, and was in the Corvette Group back in the 60-70'S. They built the race cars for GM. He has photos of himself at a 14 years old sitting in the very 1st singray racecar by the factory. He has amazing stories. Well here is the story on this car. Charlie walked into a Michigan Race shop back in 1974-75 and the owner had a original 56 vette on the chopping block to become a race car. They had cut the hood for a scoop, cut the rear inner fender wall for headers and pipes and clearanced for a crossflow radiator. Well Charlie said you can't cut that car up & do that. Well the owner responded give me $500.00 and take it. Well he did.
He put it in a barn due to the fact he did not have a garage for 2 years. He then moved it to his current 2 car detached garage. for a number of years where it became in the way. Then a neighbor had a tree fall and a 10x18 metal Barn was damaged slightly but the insurance company bought him a new one. Wel that guy gace the damaged one to charlie & he repaired it and pushed the vette in there.
i seen it a couple years ago when he was helping me with a 55 chevy and stated my intrest. he seemed not intrested so I left it for awhile. I then told him i was very intrested and gave him a price range of 5-10,000 for it. I sugested we pull it out and put it on my hoist and inspect it together and decide a value. Still not intrested to much. Then a few days ago someone offers him $5500.00 as is. He calls me durring dinner and tells me if i want it he has this offer. I said i did not want to get into a bidding war without inspecting the car but knew and told him that I could not go wrong for $6000.00.He said OK!! I went there the very next day with CASH and trailer with a winch. Now I get it back to my shop with Carlie to look at it and empty it out. We pull endless parts out of the trunk and interior.
The frame appears to be in very nice shape other than the mods. made b4 Charlie got it, He never did anything with it but collect a few added parts over his 34-35 years of ownership. Since I have had it on the Hoist and found very little steel rust at all other then surface, the rear crossmember ends are rusted out but the rest appears to be intact.
