FRAME-OFF ROTISSERIE RESTORED 1954 CORVETTE WITH MATCHING NUMBERS ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, AND REAR END.
Up for auction is a 1954 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible. This Corvette is featured in the classic Polo White with Red Interior. This car received an extensive and well documented Frame-Off Rotisserie Restoration back in 1990 at a cost of over $36,000. In todays terms with the labor costs and the parts of restoration that would easily exceed over $50,000 just for the restoration today yet alone the cost of the car! The car has only been driven 86 Miles since the restoration. The Restoration is documented with detailed photos dating back to the mid 1960's and all receipts. The Corvette is correct matching numbers car including engine, cylinder head, starter, exhaust manifold, distributor, transmission, radiator, shielding, and rear axle. We sold this car back in 1994 to a gentleman in Nebraska who only drove the car a total of 20 miles where it was kept in a climate controlled environment until March of this year where we had the opportunity to purchase the car back. The car still looked very presentable however with owning and operating a Classic Corvette sales and restoration business where most all of our cars are all up to NCRS and Bloomington Gold Standards we decided to give this 54 Corvette a closer and detailed look. With that in mind we noticed a few spots in the paint, carpet had a few flaws, radio was not working, softop had been stored down the past years, and the carbs were leaking fuel, we decided to give this well deserving car a cosmetic and correct restoration. Which included the following: We disassembled the entire car including all trim, bumpers, interior, although we probably could have rubbed the paint on the car out and spotted in the few places, we decided to repaint the entire car in base coat clear coat finish in the correct Polo White. We did not rub out the door jambs, hood lips, where the judges like to see them a more dull than shiny finish for more points when the cars are judged. All the door gaps, hood fit, trunk fit, and all trim fit as perfect as you will find. Just take a look at those for sale and you will see that about 90% of these 1954 Model Corvettes that none of the doors fit and in fact most rub or sag. This car does not! All the chrome and stainless was excellent but still was polished and cleaned along with the back sides of the parts. The grill is flawless with all teeth in mirror finish. The carburetors were removed and sent to Bob Kunz and completely rebuilt and restored with all the correct plating finish along with the hardware to NCRS Specifications. They look Amazing! All carpet was replaced with the correct Al Knock material and black heel pad along with the complete softop that is date coded as well. Underneath the carpet was lined with HushMat to reduce heat and noise. This does not affect the car as far as judging as this is not visible when the carpet is installed. Softops were all beige in 1954 along with the entire softop frame assembly at which this one has been completely restored. All fuel lines drained along with the gas tank and all fluids have been changed and the car is running and driving excellent. The radio was sent off and rebuilt so it is working and is the original AM Wonderbar one. The gauges were all removed and detailed and are also the correct original ones. Steering wheel is very nice along with the Windshield and all chrome surrounding it. Seats and door panels are as good as they come with no wrinkes, correct baseball style stitching, and all underneath the seats are detailed as well. The trunk is finished out nicely with the correct mat, matching spare tire and wheel, jack and lug wrench. The side curtain sliding windows are also excellent in shape and are clearly date coded 11-53 with the correct window storage bag color keyed, with attaching tabs on both end to hold it in place once inside the trunk. All hubcaps are nice along with reproduction 6.70X15 Whitewall tires. The chassis and engine bay have all been re detailed with all correct markings, labels, frame stencil, inspection marks, exhaust system removed and blacked out and ready for NCRS and Bloomington Gold Judging. The car looks outstanding and as nice as any you will see. Photos have also been taken since the cosmetic restoration along with current receipts that been spent to bring the car back to the fresh restored condition. Only 3,230 54 Corvettes were produced in white and this car was considered and early built one. Built in Late February of 1954, this Corvette has some of the same features as you will see on 1953 Models. These features include the side draft 3 Bullet style air cleaners instead of the dual Pot as most 54's are, the shorter exhaust extensions, and the red painted wheels on both sides. A very nice example of an original 1954 Corvette that has been restored correctly. First time offered for sale in 17 Years! Powered by the 235 c.i. Blue Flame 6 Cylinder YG Code producing 150 H.P. and a powerglide automatic transmission. Options include the Heater, Windshield Washers, Courtesy Lights, Parking Brake Alarm, Directional Signal, AM Wonderbar Radio, Whitewall tires, and the Powerglide automatic. Although these were options it is said that these early Corvettes all came equipped with these features. Owners manual, shop and assembly manual, radio instruction card, and many other documents pertaining to the 1954 Model year all go with the car including the original restoration photos and receipts along with some prior owner history. The car spent most of its life in Louisiana. The car is located in Ozark, Missouri. Southwestern part of the state, Just south of Springfield, Missouri and just minutes from Branson, Missouri, a great getaway tourist place.
