1953 Corvette #112. The Chevrolet Corvette is a sports car that has been manufactured by General Motors (GM) since 1953. The car was originally designed by Harley Earl, and named by Myron Scott after the fast ship of the same name. Originally built in Flint, Michigan and St. Louis, Missouri, it is currently built at a General Motors assembly plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The National Corvette Museum and annual National Corvette Homecoming, also located in Bowling Green, celebrate the car's history. While sold under the Chevrolet marque in the United States and other locations in the world, it is sold under its own Corvette marque in Europe and Japan. Harley Earl introduced his Dream Corvette to the World in January 1953 during the Motorama display at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City. On Tuesday, June 30, 1953 Corvette #1 Serial Number E53F001001 rolled off the assembly line. Each car was built by hand at the GM facility in Flint, Michigan, where only 300 Corvettes were built. All 1953 Corvettes were white with a red interior, all had Powerglide automatic transmissions mated to 150 HP, inline six cylinder engines with three carburetors and dual exhaust. This is the rarest Corvette. Of the 300 built, 255 are accounted for today and only an estimated 125-140 Survived.
