Car history:
I bought the car 21 years ago and it was already painted roman red with white coves. The seller started a frame off and had the body completely stripped to bare fiberglass and then painted several lacquer coats of red. He installed the chrome trim and bumpers, then, he lost his only source of restoration money (ie: his sick mother's medical money!!) so he dropped the car back on the chassis and never touched the frame, wiring, engine, suspension, trans, rear end or interior. I restored the car a little bit each year. I still have to rewire the dash harness, repair the tach and replace the rag top (I have a brand new Robbins oe top in a box).

Had serious contentions of selling the car last year, but too many low ball offers have put those thoughts on hold for now. Still need to install the new top and redo the bows/weatherstripping. Dad wants to travel Rt 66 in it from Chicago to Santa Monica, but I think without any lumbar support and/or air thru the desert, it would not be too pleasant for him. Would need to have functioning top, windshield wipers before I would even consider that trip. Anyone on this site ever completed the trip and back?

UPDATE: I have confirmed my Route 66 cross country trip with my dad will start on July 9, 2016 at return to Illinois 2 weeks later. Have not decided whether to travel back on Rt 66 from CA to IL or if we will have enough time to head to Bonneville Salt Flats and then on the interstate east to IL. Will post some information on Corvetteforum.com and I am looking into purchasing a GoPro to post some video along the way,
