Car history:
This 1955 Corvette VIN VE55S001664 was discovered in Japan and imported into Australia over 10 years ago (from Australian Government import paperwork). I have only recently purchased this 55 from the first owner in Australia who used it sparingly. My early investigations of the transmission tunnel from under car indicates this Corvette may have originally been a rare manual 1955 Corvette. It is currently running a powerglide auto. This VIN#1664 is in the total of 19 cars with unknown transmissions according to the Nolan Adams, Complete Corvette Vol 1 reference. There were 4 earlier experimental manual Corvettes for example VIN#1578 and in this reference according to Chevrolets records the last documented auto was VIN#1659 and 1st documented with manual was #1679. More details will be added in time as I review my NCRS references and plan future longer term restorations.
