1957 Corvette VIN E57S105828 VENITIAN RED/INDIA IVORY COVES 283 CI, 270 bhp, Numbers Matching! Overhead valve V-8, 4 Speed Manual Transmission, Hard and Soft Tops. The iconic Corvette really came into it's own with the 1956 model. Restyled with a sleeker body featuring contrasting color concave coves, it became an instant hit. For all weather protection GM added roll up windows that, indeed added to its growing popularity. But in 1956 Corvette only offered 265 ci passenger car engines with horsepower up to only 240. The '56 styling carried over to 1957. But in '57 Chevrolet got serious about performance offering 283 ci engines which made up to 283 bhp when equipped with mechanical fuel injection and a solid lifter high performance camshaft. Also offered was the 2 four barrel equipped 270 bhp high performance engine featured in our example. To this day many people prefer the 270 bhp for its overall reliability versus the fuel injected version which only offered 13 additional horsepower. But the icing on the cake for performance buffs was the mid year introduction of the 4 speed transmission. Our car, built in July 1957, was born with a 4 speed -- only 664 of the total production of 6,339 were so equipped. Restored some years ago our Corvette still presents well. It makes a striking impression. The convertible top is white vinyl with black liner. Interior is in red vinyl with red carpet, both in excellent condition. The engine compartment is clean but shows that this '57 was enjoyed. This first generation Corvette is ready for its next owner to drive and appreciate. We have gone through the car to insure it is mechanically up to snuff, it even has brand new Pennsylvania Safety inspection sticker.
