Car history:
00521 was custom ordered and originally sold by Chevrolet dealer Dick Wilmshursts of Wilmshursts 49er Chevrolet in Angels Camp, Calif. to Dr. Duane Deakins, M.D. of Murphys, Calif. on December 16, 1960. Dr. Deakins and his wife Elizabeth took possession and drove the car in Northern California including a trip in January 1961 to Mexico. Dr. Deakins perished in an aircraft accident in Columbia, Calif. and the car was sold to a family friend, Stu Laidlaw. I purchased the car from Stu on July 1, 1980 with 58,679 miles on the odometer. According to the hand written receipt I was given 7/1/1980, purchase price was $2,500. That number may or may not be factually correct, but.... (that's my story and I'm sticking to it.) The car is un restored and currently has 86,000 miles on the odometer and is driven in nice weather on a regular basis. Interesting original items still with the car:
Chevrolet Owner Protection Policy service coupon booklet
2 original 1961 Owners Guides including the paper envelope slip cover with the notation 5-20-60 Part Number 3785443
Delco Battery Owners Warranty and Adjustment Policy Certificate for 36 months of service
Automobile Insurance Card (Binder) of Insurance, issued by Agent Carl Truex of Truex Insurance Agency in Stockton, Calif for 30 days of coverage
Original keys in leather key fob stamped with 49er Chevrolet logo.
