Car history:
58 fuel injected corvette #s matching. I have spent much time looking over the car verifying it is a real fuelie and the #s match. I have contacted Jack Podell to help verify it is a real fuelie and he was very generous with his time and I would like to thank him. I will go through all the #s I have collected and tell you what they mean and if someone needs more information I would be happy to get it for them. The vin is J58S101497, J is the series, 58 of course is the year, S means it was built in St. Louis they started at 100001 so that means this is the 1496th corvette built in 58. The stamping on the front pad is F1125CS, F is for Flint Michigan where all corvette engines where made. 1125 means the engine was built November 25th. The car was built the first part of December a perfect fit. CS suffix means the car has 290 horse power which is the highest they had in 58. It also tells you it is a manual tranny and it is fuel injected and has a high lift cam. Date on the engine block on the rear of the passenger side is K197 November 19th 1957 again a perfect fit for the cars build date which is the first of December 57. Engine casting rear of block on drivers side 3737739. This is an engine block for a 58 corvette. Exhaust manifolds RH side 3750556, LH side 3749965 perfect fit for 58. Delco Remy distributor. Date code 7K6 Oct 6,1957 Model of distributor 1110914 correct for 283/290HP. Alternator 1102059 for a non-tach drive 290HP engine. Date 7K10, Oct 10th 1957. Main body of tranny T10-1 WG Div. Date WL 77-2 which means Warner 4-speed December 7, 1957 second shift and it is the correct cast iron. The tail shaft is the correct aluminum and it says T10 7A WG Div. Date 103057SP Build date Oct. 30th,1957. Plenum # is 7014900 R which is correct for a 58. R is only on 290HPcars. There is also a 902 on the fuel meter. The car has a nice hole through the firewall and no extra holes for the distributor. There is a 1" by 4" metal plate with three humps on it behind the air cleaner of the fender which is one of the signs it is a real fuel car. It had all the correct signs that it is a true fuel car. The only item that is wrong is the pumpkin in the rear end, that # is 3787506. The car is Signet red with white inserts and a red interior. It is a fuel injected 290, highest horse power, radio delete, heater delete, soft top delete. Someone probably bought this for racing with the highest hp and the least amount of options. The paint job on it is very smooth and even up close looks very nice,it is not perfect, all corvettes will have a few hairline cracks in the fiberglass. The interior is very nice it looks like brand new except the steering wheel has a couple of cracks in it. The wind shield frame gasket is deteriorating and will need replaced. The under side of the car looks exceptionally well, however at one time the transmission tunnel was damaged and the repair can be seen. The bright work looks very nice and does not need polished however there are a couple of small dings in two pieces. The hard top is in good condition and the head liner looks brand new The plexiglass for the top is dated 9/57 for the back piece and it is very clear and the side pieces are dated 11/57 and they are good and clear. I dont believe the front windshield and the side windows are original. The tires are like brand new on the car and not weather checked. I dont know how old the restoration is but it only has 1250 miles on the restoration. The car runs very nice and does not need tuned up but it does need driven.
