| Car history: |
This is a frame up restoration of a 1957 Chevrolet Corvette. It has been given a "Very Good" rating by the Auto Appraisal Group Inc. This appraisal was conducted in April of 2012. It has 70,251 original miles. The car has been stored in a climate controlled garage since its restoration. The car is extremely clean and has not seen any rain or inclement weather since its restoration. It is truely a head turner, and has won several trophies at car shows! This baby needs to be driven and shown off!!
BODY/EXTERIOR TRIM/TOPS/FINISH: The all fiberglass body was completely stripped, re-sealed and prepped prior to multiple coats of urethane base coat/clearcoat finish in dark Arctic Blue with Polo White front fender/door coving. Grille unit, with it's 13 vertical tooth format similar to the original 1953 Corvette, is new. Most of the other hardware and bright-metal trim items have been renewed or replated. Quality of bumper and other rechroming is concurs. The hydraulic, nylon fitted folding top is an option, but is not included. The hardtop unit (RPO-419) has been fully refinished. Only 4,055 were released for 1957. The soft top would be stored behind the seats under a hinged panel and atop the 16.4 gallon tank comprised of two stamped pans seam welded with under-body strapping. Filler is located to the rear of driver's door in fender. Glass is all original, but windshield with it's wrap- around curve and 50* rake was replaced. W/S and wind-up side glass is laminated safety plate: the hardtop rear and quarter panes are acrylic plastic (plexiglass). Although the 1956 & 57' Corvettes are very similar, the subject Vette has distinguishing, notable styling highlights including 13 tooth, oval grille work, symmetrical, thin line front and rear bumpers (actually bumperettes), wrapping around at the front and vertically positioned at the rear to accept the dual exhaust ports through rear fenders, sculpted hood power domes, front hinged hood it's high panel with inside release, screened cowl ventilator, exhibiting it's sports car pedigree are it's high set fenders with subtle rear quarter up-sweep, sculpted side panels and forward extending headlamps. At the rear the circular tail lamps are inset in center-line pods above each exhaust port. the luggage locker provides a roomy 12 cubic-foot stowage volume with spare secreted on a shelf beneath deck floor. The frontal fender scoops are non-functional, actually the only item of gimmickry on the entire car. The Corvette extends 168-in. overall length, is 70.5" wide and stands 49.2" tall at center of windshield header. It's belt-line door height is just 32.5 inches.
WHEELS/TIRES/BRAKES:
This Vette is fitted with factory steel disc wheels, drop center 15 x 5 type, finished in Arctic Blue body color and adorned with large, stainless steel chromium wheel covers and simulated, double ear, knock off center caps. Brake hydraulics, fully overhauled and fitted with stainless steel lines are duo-servo, cast iron, eleven- inch drums with effective area of 259 sq. inches. System is not power-boosted. Tires are a set of replicate 6.70 x 15, bias-ply, 4 ply rated, wide whit wall Coker units.
INTERIOR:
Cabin has been fitted with "waffle" pattern vinyl claddings on the semi-bucket seats. These foam rubber padded units are individually adjustable. Door trim panels have built in arm rests, knob type latch releases and crank operated windows. Insturment panel styling with simulated roll yields an impressive functional symmetry of the analog guage array which includes speedometer, odometer, ammeter, fuel level, oil pressure and coolant temp guages. The large, circular tachometer is mounted amidships on the dash just below the transistorized AM Wonderbar radio along with it's left fender remote antenna. Other equippage aboard include electric clock, heater/defroster unit, floor tunnel shifter for the 4 speed manual transmission, aluminumsill/step plates with hardwood filler inserts.
ENGINE/DRIVE-LINE/CHASIS:
This Corvette is fitted with a replacement, non original type Chevrolet V-8 engine, a 90*, overhead-valve 400/406 stroker engine fully performance rebuilt and spec'ed by RHS Engineering of Chattanooga, TN. It has been beautifully detailed and fitted with chrome dress up items and low profile air cleaner unit. This engine has an estimated 395 brake horse power with 9.3:1 compression heads and inducted by a 4 bbl Holley carburator. It has dual exhausts, headers and free flow muffler system. 12 volt battery/coil electrics include a Delco Remy Hi-fire ignition system. Engine is coupled to a Borg-Warner T-10 4 speed manual transmission and drives back to a hypoid 4.10:1 positraction rear differential. Front suspension set up is independent type SLA (unequal length A arms), coil springs, ball joints, double acting, special built, gas pressurized tube shocks and anti-sway bar; rear suspension features the live axle longitudinal, semi-elliptic leaf springs, gas pressurixzed double acting shocks and anti-sway bar. The 17.25 inch steering wheel is fitted to a non power assisted Saginaw steering gear with balanced linkage and 16:1 ratio. The frame is a rigid box girder type with "X" member. The 57 Corvetteis mounted upon a 101.9 in. wheelbase, tracks 57" at the front, and 59"at the rear. It offers a 5.3 inch ground clearance and curb weighs in at just over 3,100 pounds without the 55 pound hardtop.
