Car history:
This C1 Corvette is a 1958 number 100002 car. This car did not go down the assembly line. The chassis went down the assembly line, but the body was hand-built. It was one of four cars that was hand-built in 1958 and served as a Proto-type car (#01, 02, 03, and 04). The #01 car was tested and then crushed by General Motors. This #02 car was the first car made available to the public in 1958. It was actually built in late August of 1957 as a promo car to be used in promotions, magazine advertisements, and postcards. In 2009, General Motors released their pictures where this car was used in promotions. If you see a postcard of a 1958 Corvette, this car is the one pictured. I have pictures of this car in Monterey, California where Chevrolet is promoting the car on the cover of magazines and television ads.
