According to automotive photographer Bob Blanchard, son of Charles Blanchard, this 1961 Chevrolet Corvette was sold new at Quality Chevrolet in Oaklawn, Illinois, prepared for racing at Nichels Engineering in Highland, Indiana, and raced in SCCA competition in 1961. THE CAR WAS OWNED BY TOM TERRELL, JR. It raced at ROAD AMERICA on JUNE 18, 1961 BY TOM, and again in the ROAD AMERICA 500 September 7, 1961. On July 23, 1961 Tom raced at MEADOWDALE. He finished 7th in all three races. CHUCK BLANCHARD had better luck and raced the car at Wilmot, Wisconsin on August 27, 1961 and finished FIRST. He also raced the car at Brainard in Minnesota. It was rediscovered in an Illinois garage in 1989 by Elmer Lash, who recognized it as an exceptionally rare big brake/big tank/ Fuelie car. Lash immediately offered to buy the car and two weeks later it was his. A four-year restoration commenced, and the car was completed on May 25 1993. Three days later it scored 98.1 at a regional NCRS meet the first of a seemingly unending string of awards that includes repeat Bloomington Gold NCRS Top Flight and Duntov awards the Chevrolet Vettefest Triple Crown and in 2001 a place in the coveted Bloomington Gold Special Collection. Finished in the classic combination of Ermine White with a matching hard top and Red interior, this historically significant C1 Corvette retains all the original pieces the RPO 354 283/315 HP V-8 with correct Rochester fuel injection Borg Warner 4-speed 4.11 Positraction rear end Heavy Duty Brakes and Suspension 15x5.5-inch painted wheels with passenger car hubcaps and Blackwall tires. Even the elephant ear brake cooling scoops are included in their factory-supplied burlap bag. Documentation for this incomparable offering includes the original title history magazine articles and reviews and award certificates.
