Car history:
When Larry Don Gillham was 28 years old, he decided it was time to buy himself a
new Corvette. It was early 1959, and he knew exactly what he wanted. He ordered
himself a new 1959 Corvette with the 283/290 horsepower fuel injected engine, 4
speed close ratio transmission, Hard Top, Positraction, and black interior. The car
came in, in late May, and was exactly as he had imagined. The car was beautiful
and fast. He drove the car daily and drag raced at night and on the weekends just
like any other red blooded, American guy of the time. Sometime in the 1960s, Larry
blew up the original fuelly engine and decided he was going to build an engine that
was faster and stronger than the original 283. He had the local speed shop build
him a 327 that pulled harder and revved higher than the original engine. He installed
the radical intake and carburetor system that you see and also installed angle plug
heads. Larry also installed a few custom features such as a little holder in the trunk
for a quart of oil and a hidden compartment behind the trunk board for emergency
items. (see picture, yes that is the actual delco tire patch and fire extinguisher in a
can from the 60s) Unfortunately Larry also discarded the original fuel injection unit
and original engine. He continued to drive the car and race it on occassion, but
just like anything else, it happened less and less frequently. In the 1970s it had
pretty much turned into just an extra car to have around. In 1975 it was sitting in
the driveway when Larrys wife was backing out her car and did not see the
Corvette sitting behind her. She bumped the right front corner and cracked the
fender. Larry fixed the damage himself and put the repaired area in primer. He
then pulled the car in the Garage and it sat there for the next 37 years.

When the car was entombed, it still retained its original paint, transmission, and
rearend. The Corvette has 66,000 original miles on it and has actually been
preserved pretty well. The original spare is still in the trunk, it has the original
jack board, original shifter, both tops, original owners manual, and the actual
original 1959 title. The tires are bias ply wide white silvertowns that must have
been on there since the 60s. Larry did add a small little hood dome and had
installed a luggage rack at some point. The luggage rack is gone now. Other that
the damage that occured in 1975, the body is fabulous, the frame is nice with just
a bit of surface rust, but no rot. The original axle straps are still intact and it still
has 3 of its original T3 headlights. (The fourth was broke in 1975 ) The car starts
and runs great. The brakes will need to be redone but it would not take much at
all to be driving this old fuelly car around.

This is a great find, original owner cars are getting tougher and tougher to aquire.
Larry is still around. He is now 81 years old and you can see him in the picture
with the broom in his hand. I also have a one owner 1957 that I will be listing in a
few weeks. It was a one lady owned car that was bought new in Los Angeles and
spent the rest of its life in Flagstaff, Arizona.

I am offering this car at no reserve, please do not bid unless you intend to buy. I
encourage all potential bidders to come inspect the car in person. You will not be
disappointed. I require full payment within 7 days of the auction close. You can
email questions through ebay, or call me at 816-716-2417 .
