Highlights Three time NCRS Top Flight winner 1 of 700 Corvettes produced in 1955 1 of 45 in Pennant Blue Comprehensive restoration completed in 2008 Washington state car since 1967 Original 265 CI engine Powerglide automatic transmission Dark Beige leather interior Interior and top restored by John Kennedy Pushbutton radio Believed to be 69,755 miles Wide Whitewall tires Full size wheel covers Documented ownership history to 1957 Restoration photos Original owners manual
Corvette remained unchanged stylistically for 1955 despite much background work exploring new ideas. Instead, new Chevrolet Chief Engineer Ed Cole focused on replacing the cars intrepid but overmatched Blue Flame inline-6 with the all-new 265 CI small block V-8 that had astonished the motoring press upon its introduction. Combined with the standard Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission, it proved a natural for Chevrolets new sports car and jump started its journey to becoming Americas ultimate dream machine.
One of just 700 built in the year Chevrolet almost abandoned the Corvette, this spectacular 1955 model is a three-time NCRS Top Flight Award winner finished as-originally delivered from the factory in rare Pennant Blue, a color available only in 1954 and 1955, and ordered on just 45 Corvettes that second year. It was also only offered with this cars Dark Beige leather interior, Beige soft top and Red painted wheels.
While it has been a Washington State resident since 1967, it is in fact one of the first Corvettes ever delivered to Hawaii, where it was purchased by its first owner in Honolulu, on the island of Oahu. Restored in 2008, this car earned its first Regional Top Flight honors in Bend, Oregon with a score of 98 out of a possible 100 points, a remarkable achievement indicative of the quality of the restoration. Documented with outstanding provenance, it remains largely authentic, retaining the original 265 CI V-8 and Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission, both rebuilt and restored to factory specification. The body is extremely well finished, with good panel fit and finish. The interior and convertible top, masterfully restored by renowned Corvette guru John Kennedy, are stunning, with clean, crisp detailing and finely finished upholstered surfaces.
Numerous photos of the restoration, as well as documentation dating back to 1957 accompany this multiple award-winning first-year V-8 Corvette. |
