| Car history: |
This is a 1957 Corvette Convertible Custom:
1957 Corvette body and styling on a 1994 Corvette C4 chassis, welded and reinforced to handle increased power and torque. The engine is an LT-1 350 cid 5.7-Liter V8 engine (Factory spec 300 hp and 340 ft-lb torque) and six-speed manual transmission, also from a 1994 Corvette.
The engine is modified with custom headers and throttle body. The car is registered in California as a 1957 model, so it is exempt from smog requirements.
The ideal combination of classic styling and modern drivability.
This car has many custom body modifications (detailed below) and runs and drives great. Everyone notices this car and loves it. Please note: The car does not have windshield wipers. This car was built by Chevrolet for California, and therefor windshield wipers were never installed. (But you weren't planning on driving it in the rain anyway, right?) Detailed pictures of the car are below, along with Youtube videos of the car in action. Also linked are several galleries of the build process, you can see the car before, during, and after construction. Q: Why would anyone sell this car? A: As the kids get older, more time is spent on family activities than on taking the car out and enjoying it properly. I also plan to spend more time traveling and working on helping kids with my charity (Band of Brothers Foundation - www.bobf.org ) Bidders: While I've made ever effort to describe the car in as much detail as possible, you may have additional questions. Please feel free to message me with any additional questions through ebay you may have.
Terms: $500 deposit required from winning bidder within 24 hours of completion of auction.
57V ... Concept Car What if the 1957 Corvette C-1 Convertible was designed today? The 57V was built to drive comfortably and perform while maintaining the best features of the classic look of the original 1957 Corvette. This car is Car Show ready. This car is ready to be featured on the cover of any custom car magazine in the world. This car is ready to drive. Award winning design: 1st place winner in Semi Sports Pre 1963 Class at the 60th Grand Nation Roadster Show (2009) in Pomona California. The performance goal: Balanced Performance Easy to Drive Classic Feel Outstanding handling Moderate maintenance Design Goal: Changes that look like they were from original car and wouldn't be noticed by most people (Can you see the changes)? Functional and Practical Clean Lines (not too many distractions) Use 50's period look where possible The Challenges: Very small spaces No extra space available for new parts Original car interior was too small and uncomfortable to drive. Fire wall layout made it difficult to layout a clutch and braking system that was easy to use. The 1957 Corvette: Ranked 1st as “Cars that won the hearts of American Drivers” by the Wall Street Journal (April 4-5, 2009).
Registered as a 1957 model: No smog restrictions Design and Performance Features Chassis and Performance: Solid Chassis Connection: 1994 C-4 Chassis combined with 1957 frame. Ford fan and shroud Exhaust: Jet Hot coated hugger headers into stainless steel exhaust, routed “through the frame” Reverse flow cooling system: One of the greatest features of the '92 and up Chevrolet LT-1 engine is the reverse flow cooling system. In fact it is reverse flow cooling that is truly the key to the incredible performance of the modern LT-1. Reverse flow cooling is vastly superior to the conventional cooling systems used on virtually all other engines. This is because it cools the cylinder heads first, preventing detonation and allowing for a much higher compression ratio and more spark advance on a given grade of gasoline. A fringe benefit is that cylinder bore temperatures are higher and more uniform, which reduces piston ring friction. Because of this new cooling system, the LT-1 can easily meet ever-increasing emissions standards with significant gains in power, durability, and reliability.
