THIS IS AS RUST FREE AS THEY COME- A LIFELONG GARAGED 92K LOW MILES ORIGINAL NUMBERS MATCHING, 1962 CORVETTE WITH MOSTLY ORIGINAL PAINT, A HO-HIT BODY, THE ORIGINAL WONDERBAR RADIO, THE GREAT SHIFITING 4-SPEED WITH ITS ORIGINAL POSITIVE LOCKOUT REVERSE HANDLE AND OPTIONED WITH THE 340 H.P. NUMBERS MATCHING MOTOR! THIS IS A VERY ORIGINAL AND UNTAMPERED WITH CAR.
EXTERIOR
The body is straight and the car appears to have never been in any kind of serious accident if it has ever been in an accident period. The color is the very desirable Honduras Maroon. The paint is mostly original and might be entirely original save a few touch ups. As such the paint is driver quality at best. It shines as well as any 44 year old lacquer paint will but it will only do if you are looking for a driver, otherwise you will need paint. The frame is in remarkably good shape and I didnt even really see surface rust on it. The car runs and drives but it appears to have last been registered in 1978 which would account for the low mileage. When I climbed under the car to have a look not only did all of the original fiberglass still look white retaining its original bonding strips I could not see any repairs. Aside from the knicks, chips and checks in the paint the front left metal headlight bezel has an indentation. Of course it goes without saying that the interior and exterior colors are original to the car. The bumpers shine presentably but no longer retain their original luster. The original weatherstrip on the car is in fair to above average condition and is still soft to the touch in most places appearing not to be coming apart anywhere per se. The soft top is white and of course the frame is not only very solid but the soft top really fits up to the car nicely just like it should because it is so original. Frankly I had one installed on y own car and never got it to work as nicely as this one does. However it will need the new vinyl. The headlights work and the car possesses ALL of its ORIGINAL T-3 HEADLAMPS. The wipers are functional and the move with due speed. The wiper system still retains its washer with pump the condition of which I have not tested. You can see that the car has the original wheels and hubcaps and they look great with no conpicuous dents or scrapes. She is a very sharp looking car that gets a lot of attention.
INTERIOR
The interior is in above average condition considering its age and originality. The seats are in remarkably good shape showing only one small inconspicuous hole in the driver side lower seat cushion you cant see in the picture and might not notice in person unless someone pointed it out. The car even still possesses its original seat belts! The carpet is in good shape but has faded and for $139 it can be replaced and probably should. The door panels are in near great shape showing no rips, no tears, and no holes. The only thing I would point out that you can see in the pictures is the armrests which have that shiny plastic that has dulled with time. Even all of the original felt piping for the window channels is not cobbled up like on most cars. The windows roll up and down great. The dash is showing a rip behind the driver side instrument cluster. Someone had an afermarket gauge attached to the instrument cluster and one can still see the two small holes left behind that should be filled in and touched up. The original wonder bar radio is still in the car but one of the knobs is mismatched. As already mentioned the car still retains its original positive lockout reverse shift handle.
MECHANICS
As you can tell from the pictures the car looks fair under the hood for an original largely unmolested engine compartment. The gentleman that I purchased it from believed in keeping the car as original as possible so for instance when he had the generator rebuilt he did not even have them paint it black again. The car still retains its ORIGINAL 327 C.I. 340 H.P. motor which has a lot of zip to it. The 4-Spee still shifts great and the car drives great without the normal slop in the steering that I feel with some of the other straight axles I have driven. The car also seems to stop as well as any 62 Corvette does. The tires are also only have about 3000 miles on them and seem to be correct. The car does need a starter and I have included a rebuilt AC Delco unit with the car. I would also replace the battery tray as the original one in the car fills the bill but has suffered from battery acid damage as is very common. Overall this car runs, drives and handles well!
FURTHER INFORMATION
Overall she is a great looking car and will make a proud owner out of the high bidder. The original owners manual and an old speeding ticket issued to the owner of the car in 1971 which I found in the glove compartment (as pictured below) are included with the car! I have no doubt that whoever gets her will be very happy if they are looking for a nice, very original and very classic 1962 Driver Corvette. |
