THE CAR COMES WITH CLEAR "OHIO" TITLE.

TO START I WOULD LIKE TO TELL THE HISTORY OF THE CAR STARTING WHEN PURCHASED AROUND JUNE 1961. IT STARTED LIFE AS A RED ON RED,230 HP 283 POWERGLIDE CAR.WITH A SOFT TOP ONLY. THE ORIGINAL OWNER RECIEVED IT AS A HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION PRESENT. OF COURSE THE YOUNGSTER WASNT SATISFIED WITH THE MEAGER POWER OF THE LITTLE 283...SO SOON AFTER RECIEVING IT HE SENT IT OFF TO A FRIENDS SPEED SHOP FOR THE INSTALLATION OF A TRI-POWER PONTIAC MILL.

AS FATE WOULD HAVE IT THE CAR WAS STOLEN WHILE OUTSIDE THE LONG ISLAND ,NEW YORK SPEED SHOP...SOME TIME AROUND EARLY AUGUST 1961.I WAS TOLD THE 14 YEAR OLD THIF HAD HIS HANDS FULL WITH THE POWER OF THE 389 TRI POWER AND SPUN IT OUT INTO A FENCE...DAMAGING THE LEFT FRONT FENDER. AT THIS POINT THE CAR WAS STRIPPED OF THE PONTIAC ENGINE AND TRANS....THEN QUICKLY PUT UP FOR SALE. SO HERE WE ARE MID AUGUST 1961....ENTER THE LONGEST OWNER OF THE VETTE...MR. WILLIAM MITCHELL. A 29 YEAR OLD CAR FANATIC...HEARD OF THE CAR BEING FOR SALE FROM A FRIEND, AND WASTED NO TIME HURRYING TO SEE IT AND PURCHASE IT.HE TOLD ME IT THEN TOOK HIM ABOUT A YEAR BEFORE IT WAS REPAIRED AND PAINTED "SIERRA GOLD" AND BACK ON THE ROAD...NOW SPORTING NEW PAINT AND A FRESH CRATE 327.THE CAR WAS DRIVEN VERY SPARINGLY BUT DID MAKE A TRIP TO FLORIDA AND NORTH CAROLINA BEFORE BECOMING A DEDICATED DRAG RACER IN 1964.THE CAR WAS RACE AT WEST HAMPTON AND ISLIP DRAGSTRIPS....I HAVE ALL THE RACE SET UP INFO AVAILABLE....MR. MITCHELL RACED THE CAR UNTIL 1972...WHEN THE TRACK CLOSED HE QUIT...AND STORED THE CAR IN THE GARAGE TILL 1990 WHEN HE SOLD IT. THE CAR HAD BEEN TAKEN OFF THE FRAME...AT WHICH POINT THE FRAME WAS RESTORED...AFTER A FEW MORE OWNERS AND NO PROGRESS ON THE WORK...I BOUGHT THE CAR IN MAY OF THIS YEAR....IT SHOWS 3432 MILES....AFTER TALKING WITH MR.MITCHELL WE FIGURED THE CAR HAS AROUND 10-12K MILES BUT THE SPEEDO WAS DISCONNECTED SINCE 1963 AND WAS NOT HOOKED UP ON HIS TRIPS....IT HAS NOT BEEN ON THE ROAD SINCE 1964 AND HAS BEEN OFF THE TRACK SINCE 1972....WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR IT WAS STILL PURPLE...WHICH WAS THE COLOR MR. MITCHELL PAINTED IT AROUND 1968-69.CURRENTLY IT IS ABOUT 98% STRIPPED OF PAINT. AND I REMOUNTED THE BODY WITH NEW CORVETTE CENTRAL BODY MOUNTS.THIS CAR HAS A SUPER CLEAN FRAME...ALL THE SUSPENSION IS REBUILT TOO...I PLANNED TO RESTORE THE CAR AS A VINTAGE RACER...WHILE BEING STREET LEGAL TOO...THE CURRENT ENGINE IS A 1967 327...I JUST REMOVED IT FROM MY 1960 CORVETTE WHICH WAS RUNNING AND DRIVING GREAT...THE M20 MUNCIE IS ALSO OUT OF MY 60'.IT SHIFTS GREAT WITH NO NOISE....OVERALL I WOULD RATE THIS PROJECT CAR AN 8 ON A 1-10 SCALE...THE BODY IS VERY GOOD OTHER THAN THE LEFT FRONT FENDER REPAIR COULD BE REDONE A BIT....I HAVE INCLUDED A BRAKE AND FUEL LINE SET...NOS FUEL SENDER-SOME MISC. NOS TRIM-NOS FENDER TOP MOULDINGS & HEADLIGHT BEZELS....THE SEATS NEED COVERS BUT THE CUSHIONS AND TRACKS ARE THE BEST ORIGINALS I HAVE EVER SEEN.ALSO INCLUDED IS A BLACK DASH PAD...NEW BLACK CARPET...AND OTHER PARTS IN THE PICS.
