THIS 1962 CORVETTE ROADSTER / HARDTOP

This 1962 Corvette can best be described in one word...Survivor. The car is a beautiful example of an original, California "Black Plate" car that has remained virtually 100% stock, and unmodified for over 43 years. The only changes to the Corvette are those that may have been performed when the car was only a few years old (replacement radio, improved exhaust). However, even the original Wonderbar radio (not working at this time) is included with the car.

The VIN number (20867S108841) decodes to a Chevrolet (2) Corvette (08) Convertible (67) that was produced in St Louis, MO. (08). The car was the 8,841 car produced (production began at 100,000 for the year of 1962) and ended at 114,531.

The coding on the 327 c.i. engine block matches with a production of (F) Finlt Michigan, March (03), and RC engine/transmission/carburetor code (327c.i., 4 Barrel and 4 speed transmission). The Corvette has a Carter 4 barrel carburetor.

The Corvette is equipped with a Posi-traction rear, 4 Speed Manual transmission, AM Radio. This car also has the original "Auxiliary Hardtop" that was included as an option on 8,074 of the total of 14,531.

Finally, a review of the other engine components suggests 100% originality. The intake carries the code 3788244, correct for this year. The manifold appears correct, (the car has free flow exhaust, but not headers) as do the heads (although the valve covers were not removed to confirm).

The verification of these numbers by an impendent source, and the overall appearance of the car/equipment would indicate that this car is 100% original.

CONDITION - BODY & TRIM / PAINT

As the photos reflect, this is a beautiful example of an original 1962 Corvette. The paint on the Corvette is extremely high gloss and in truly excellent condition. The body is very straight and the body, trim is 100% original and complete. Additonally, it appears as if all of the trim is original to the car. The car appears to have has one quality re-paint in its original color of Roman Red. As was true (and correct) for 1962, the coves (insets on the sides of the car) are correctly painted the body color.

The panel fit on the Corvette is excellent and the doors close solidly and securley, as does the hood. The bumpers on the car are free from dents, dings, and damage, and are totally free from rust and any signs of pitting. The bumpers are totally straight with excellent fit. The Corvette has the appearance of a Northern California car that has been exceptionally well cared for during its entire life.

As the undercarriage photographs reflect, this California Corvette has a very clean, totally rust free undercariage/frame.

The car carries the original, California black plates both front, and back. For those unfamiliar with California's license plate issuance, only a car that was orignally sold in California during the California black plate "era" can retain black plates. Many collectors consider the presence of black plates to be a considerable benefit as it docuemnts the cars history.

INTERIOR / TOP

The interior on the Corvette is extremely nice. The condition of the interior is so very nice that it is difficult to tell if it has be been re-done or is just in amazing original condition. The seats, dash, door panels, carpeting and other areas have the appearance of a Corvette that is just a few years old.

The carpeting looks like new (and definitely has the appearance of being replaced) and is covered with high quality Corvette logo floor mats. The seats are beautiful and free from any damage, signs of wear or stains and, again, may well have been replaced with original style material over the years. The seat belts are older clasp style that may well be orignal to the car. They are red as is the entire interior. Personally, we think the red interior is absolutely striking and makes for a very "period" appearance.

The dash is in really great condition including the radio speaker grill and all of the other trim. The gauges are all original , and unlike man of the older Corvettes that we have seen, are functional. The tachometer is original and in perfect wrking order. The steering wheel is also original, factory equipment, as is the steering wheel hub that has a few scratches but overall is in very nice condition.

The car is offered with only the factory optional hardtop that is in superb condition. The top is structually sound and the paint is excellent. The headliner looks like new as does the trim and fastners on the hardtop. It is in exceptional conditon, including clear rear and side windows.

MECHANICAL CONDITION

The Corvette runs and drives very well. The car just received a complete tune-up, inspection of all mechanical components, and fluid ckecks/changes since the Corvette has been used minimally during the past few years. It received the necessary items including new wheel bearings, lube & oil/filter, and topping off of all fluids. The brakes were checked and found to be in good order, as were the other major components of the car. The Corvette starts immediately and runs without hesitation. It does not leak excessive fluids, and runs and drvies very well.

The Corvette has excellent brakes, steering and power. The car does not smoke, have any unusual engine noise. The clutch engages properly, the syncromesh gears are fully functional, and there is no excessive noise in the drive line.

Every indication is that this particular Corvette has the original engine, transmission and rear end. The mileage shown of 82,828 is consistent with the appearance of the undercarriage (and overall condition) of this original, California car.

A DRIVE IN THE CORVETTE

There is nothing like driving a classic, vintage Corvette. The first thig you notice is the attention that you receive, any where you go. It is incredible how many people appreciate a nice example of this classic Corvette.

Once the car is started, the first thing you notice is how tight and rattle free this car is compared with other Corvette's of the era. It is virtually free from squeaks, rattles or noises. It is solid and tight and offers a very comfortable ride.

The drivability of the car is excellent. The clutch engages properly and the gear shifts, both "up and down" are precise and free from any grinding/crunching.
